Mission and objectives
The Economic Commission for Western Asia (ECWA) was established on 9 August 1973 pursuant to Economic and Social Council's resolution 1818 (LV). Its purpose was to stimulate economic activity in member countries, strengthen cooperation between them promote development.
ESCWA's objectives are to support economic and social development in member countries, to promote interaction and cooperation between member countries, to encourage the exchange of experience, best practice and lessons learned, to achieve regional integration and ensure interaction between Western Asia and other regions, and to raise global awareness of the circumstances and needs of member countries.
ESCWA provides a framework for the formulation and harmonization of sectoral policies for member countries, a platform for congress and coordination, a home for expertise and knowledge, and an information observatory.
ESCWA activities are coordinated with the divisions and main offices of the Headquarters of the United Nations, specialized agencies, and international and regional organizations, including the League of Arab States and its subsidiary bodies, and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Context
As part of its mandate to promote human development and democratic transition in the region, ESCWA has been implementing NAFS since 2012. Since then, the NAFS Programme has served as an inclusive platform for technical dialogue between Syrians from all walks of life, regardless of their political affiliation, and is the only such platform to systematically assess the policy needs for a post-conflict Syria, empowering Syrians themselves to make that assessment. The Programme produces research and analysis that reflects the views, needs, and priorities of Syrians, as well as tools that are applicable to broader conflict-affected contexts in the region. This assignment is designed to provide support for the NAFS programme, as well as other research and projects undertaken by the program manager officer concerning conflict situations in the region.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of the Economic Affairs Officer and within limits of delegated authority, the Team Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
Perform a wide range of office support, administrative and research functions.
Responds or drafts responses with respect to relevant administrative and other matters and to routine correspondence and other communications; uses standard word processing package to produce a wide variety of large, complex documents and reports.
Monitors processes and schedules related to the unit's outputs, products, tasks, etc.; where applicable, assists in the verification of receipt and accuracy of requisite documents, approvals, signatures, etc.
Researches, compiles and organizes information and reference materials from various sources for reports, work plans, studies, briefings, meetings/conferences, etc.
Generates a variety of standard statistical and other reports, work orders, etc., using various databases.
Maintain files (both paper and electronic) for the project activities.
Proofreads documents and edits texts for accuracy, grammar, punctuation, and style, and for adherence to established standards for format.
Provides secretarial, administrative and logistics support to meetings, Steering committee, events, etc.
Assists in the maintenance of websites by scanning, converting, and posting a variety of documents onto the site. eOvCLjl DY2qnO
Assists in the preparation of presentation materials using appropriate technology/software.
Maintains calendar/schedules; monitors change and communicates relevant information to PM.
Performs data entry and extraction functions.
Reviews, records, distributes and/or processes mail and other documents; follows-up on impending actions.
Updates and maintains large distribution lists; monitors, prepares and distributes various materials, reports, where possible using electronic formats; handles arrangement for printing and translation as necessary; coordinates shipment arrangements, courier services, etc.
Assists in general administrative tasks (e.g. arrangements for meetings and other events, reservations, and visa applications etc.
Performs other duties as assigned
Assist in expanding and maintaining NAFS network of experts across relevant sectors and produces regular news monitoring on Syria and key surrounding regional areas.
